Beautiful Parasporos Beach, just 3 km south of Parikia, is justifiably one the most popular beaches on the island of Paros. Tucked in a sheltered bay, the long, sandy beach offers an ideal swimming, sunbathing and sporting locale prized by both residents and visitors alike.
Parasporos Beach offers all the amenities one could desire for an idyllic seaside afternoon: wide golden sands, numerous sun beds and umbrellas, volleyball nets, public showers, two seaside tavernas, two beach bars and plentiful parking - all overlooking the gentle, ink-blue Aegean Sea.
The beach is popular enough to always guarantee thriving throngs of devotees on all of Paros' typical cloudless sunny summer days - and many Parasporos beach-goers stretch their afternoon out to evening and enjoy the beautiful sunset views afforded from the scenic west-facing location before adjourning to one of the nearby tavernas or larger beach bars for sunset drinks, dinner or dancing that often lasts late into the night.
Souvlia lies a short distance south of Parikia. It's an easy walk, or even easier drive or bus ride. The views over the bay of Souvlia and adjacent Parasporos beach are quie spectacular. Souvlia beach itself is a mixture of golden sand and pebbles around 150m long and 20m wide. The seabed slopes gently so it's perfect for kids, especially as the prevailing winds blow onshore, so lessening the likelyhood of any little ones (or big ones), accidentally floating off.
Parents can easily keep an eye on their offspring from either of the very good, and wildly different restaurant bars that look out over the beach.
Sunloungers and deckchairs are available free of charge.
Souvlia Beach looks across the bay of Parikia to the headland of Agios Fokas. Around 150m offshore is a small rocky islet with a rather unusual feature, a short underwater cave through which it's possible to swim. Take care in the area imediately around the islet as it can be full of sea urchins.
