Pythagorion is the main tourist destination on the island. It is the birthplace of the famous mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras, and is steeped in history, with ancient ruins everywhere you look. You´ll find beautiful and charming alleyways, traditional tavernas, cafes and bars, a main street of shops to browse in, leading down to the picturesque harbour lined with wonderful places to eat, drink, and soak up the views and atmosphere. During summer you can enjoy different sports and cultural events nearby, including the international sailing competitions of Aegean Rally and Aegean Reggata, and concerts, festivals, and the big celebration of August 6th with its spectacular battle re-enactment and fireworks display.
The area is a UNESCO World Heritage site, with one of the most important archaeological sites of the island - the Tunnel of Eupalinus and the walls of ancient Pythagorion (walls of Polycrates). Pythagorion also has a long stretch of blue-flagged beach for you to enjoy.
Ireon is around 10km away. One of the best places on the island to watch the moon rise, Ireon was a traditional fishing village and is still well known for its fresh fish today. It has a good choice of bars and tavernas surrounding the small square and lining the water's edge. Nearby is the "the Temple of Hera" - the other UNESCO World Heritage site on the island. Its also host to an annual 3 day music festival in August.
Psili Ammos is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the island and is only 3km away from Luna Rosa. It has clear blue shallow water - ideal for children and for your relaxation - as well as several traditional taverns serving a variety of seafood dishes and local flavours.
